Story from parent Kathy, representing Jordan, Githens, and Hope Valley; Kathy is a graduate of Little River, Carrington, and Northern

My husband and I have had a very favorable experience with Durham Public Schools over the years. We have been fortunate to be involved with each school attended through the PTA and many different volunteer opportunities. The staff and administration have always been very open and available to us and our children. Currently, our attendance at Jordan has shown us the great number of hours that the staff and administration put into our children.

School starts at 7:30 and I know staff are there before then to begin the day. Ending at 2:30 is a number and does not reflect the actual time that a lot of the staff leave the school. I know office hours/study times have been available to my children at various times during the day and after school. The staff have also been available via e-mail and I have received communication at various times of the day and night, showing that their job has not ended because the bell rang. Both of our children have been challenged academically and been given many different opportunities to be involved with extracurricular activities as well, most of which are supervised by teaching staff. We feel our children will leave Durham Public Schools as well rounded young adults. We always hear the bad that happens in Durham, we appreciate the opportunity to share the good.
