Testimonials for General DPS Stories

My daughter is thriving in DPS

My eldest daughter has thrived in the Durham public schools! She had a truly FABULOUS Kindergarten experience at E.K. Powe Elementary School, and then transferred to George Watts Montessori Magnet for first and second grades.

When the first year of her transfer was rocky for her, I joined the Watts School Improvement Team so I could try to help the school make it easier to welcome transfer students. So far, I have been uniformly impressed by how much the school teachers and administrators and parents CARE about making Watts a safe, peaceful, caring, and intellectually rigorous place for children to excel!

Story from parents Dr. Craig and Kathy Hoffmeier

As parents of two Durham Public Schools’ graduates (Nathan – 2009 and Katie – 2010), my husband and I are happy to share our thoughts on DPS with you! Overall, we are very pleased with the academic and social experience that Nate and Kate received in grades K – 12 within the DPS system. We believe that they were challenged and encouraged to do their BEST. We are proud of their academic accomplishments and ability to form friendships with students from down the street and around the world.

The staff and administration have always been very open and available to us and our children. Currently, our attendance at Jordan has shown us the great number of hours that the staff and administration put into our children.

This is due to the wonderful role models she has had in her life with DPS from Eno Valley, Carrington and as a Graduating Senior at Riverside High.
