What's good at Carrington

October feels like an appropriate month to talk about spirits. The ghosts of Halloween will soon descend upon us, giving physical form to the intangible supernatural that many believe we live in the midst of every day. Whether or not I believe in those specters is another post for another blog, but I will say here unequivocally that I believe in school spirit.

And so does the staff at Carrington Middle School.

DPS teacher and Carrington parent R. Baker's story

From the day I toured Carrington when my son was in 4th grade, I was impressed. I remained that way all the way through this school year, his 6th grade year. From the tours they give to potential students, to the welcome I received when I registered him as a transfer student, to the parent meetings we had prior to school starting, I always felt Carrington was organized and professional. This past school year simply proved me correct.

Parent Shannon's story

Like many parents, I was extremely nervous about my daughter making the transition to Middle School. My daughter was placed on the Sea Crew and after open house and the first day at school; I knew I had nothing to worry about. The Sea Crew teachers have been a blessing to my child. They have taught her so much and have given her many opportunities to grow. They have been so positive and supportive through out the school year. I can never thank them enough for all that they have done.

Story from parent Margie Muir, manager of nursing services at Durham Regional Hospital

I have had wonderful experiences having both a son (now 17) and daughter (now completing 7th grade) at Carrington Middle School. More important than my experiences, however, are theirs! Both had teachers that they felt really cared about their success. They loved the arts – Grant had a great time with band, and now Marie loves her art classes. Both had the ability to be very challenged with algebra in the 7th grade, which contributed to my son just completing his AP Calculus courses as a junior in high school.

Carrington’s character is welcoming and friendly, from the front office staff, to the caring teachers, to the Administration. They all go above and beyond to meet the needs of all students and offer an ideal environment for students to develop academically and socially as they make new friends in the classroom and through participation in a wide variety of sports, arts, and clubs.
