2nd grade teacher Kristyn Erdely's story

Working at Creekside Elementary school is such a blessing for me as a teacher. I truly LOVE working with the students, parents, and teachers here that are caring, dedicated, and inspired each day to “SOAR” to the sky. A short 3 months ago, one of our own “eagles” Makaylyn Serrano, was diagnosed with Leukemia. Makaylyn had entered my classroom as a rising second grader in August; I just couldn’t believe my ears when I heard the news and thought to myself, “she’s only 7 years old!!” You see, this is where the “I truly LOVE” my school part comes into play.

Starting On May 1, 2010 Creekside Elementary dedicated the ENTIRE month to helping Makaylyn and her family. Mae (being Makaylyn’s nickname) seemed only fair that we name our fundraising event “THE MONTH OF MAE”. Over the course of the month and with MUCH needed help…we were able to raise over $2300 for the Serrano family. I was inspired not only by the support of my own school, but my community as well. Makyalyn continues her battle with Leukemia but I can tell you, she is one little “tough cookie” and her positive outlook only exemplifies the spirit of Creekside.
